Are you using a guide?
I'm sure they explain something in it. Let me look it up real quick ;)

Try talking to everybody INVOLVED in the quest...again.
That usually works in every quest which has problems such as these, use it as a guideline.

Yeah well I'm not sure. I went on Tip.it and Rune Hq and got this.
TIP.IT:
Getting the picture: Go back and talk with the Squire. He'll tell you that Sir Vyvin has a portrait of his father with the sword. Go to the third floor of the Falador castle and locate Sir Vyvin. Either get a friend to talk with him (choosing distraction) then search the cupboard on the wall. You can also leave the door open and wait for him to go out of the room. When he does, close the door and then search the cupboard. Either method works.
RUNEHQ:
Head southwest of Port Sarim to the cliff that Thurgo (http://www.runehq.com/RHQPersonView.php?id=436) lives below. Give him your Redberry pie and he'll get talkative. He needs a picture so head back the White Knight's Castle. Talk to Sir Vyvin's squire (http://www.runehq.com/RHQPersonView.php?id=38) to find out about the picture. Go up to the south side of the third floor (American) second floor (UK). Search the cupboard in his bedroom while Sir Vyvin (http://www.runehq.com/RHQPersonView.php?id=40) is not in the room. You'll get the picture.

But you should try what Vscel said or use the guides from either websites. If it doesn't work than I'm not really sure what to tell you. There always is a way to get something back, I'm sure you'll figure it out, since you can't seem to obtain it from the cupboard again.
Did you try going back to the place you died? Was your gravestone still up? That could be the problem too, that the picture hasn't 'disappeared'.
