Ranging (def+pray) Guide
I have recently made a pure archer and I’ve decided to make a guide in the hopes that it will help someone when making theirs.
First of all, I hope you didn’t pick a name like Rangexpure123 (or something to that effect) because it’s kind of obvious in the wild, that you are a pure. It’s your choice of course, but I try to stay away from names like that altogether.
Now before you start you should go on your main and buy leather/studded/green d hide armor, bows, arrows, etc. I prefer shortbows because they shoot faster. Iron arrows are my choice of arrow because you can use then from right when you start off, or even if you are good and need to train more. They are cheap and not that bad of an arrow. I also recommend an ammy of accuracy because it will help a little.
Ok, so here you are at lumbridge with a level 3 char, and you are ready to start. Now put most of your stuff in the bank (excluding your bow, maybe an oak bow for when you level up, arrows, and leather chaps and body, if you have). First, train on chickens. Chickens are easy because they’re level 1…obviously. Set your attack mode to long range and attack away. I would pick up and bury the bones for prayer exp. You can pick up and bank the feathers also and sell them later. Once you can wield an oak bow, wield that to maximize your range bonus. Same goes for when you are able to wield any of the other bows.
So it does seem slower because you are using shared xp, but it will pay off later. Once you have around 10 range and 10 def [from using shared xp (long range)] you should start fighting cows. With cows, you will still get bones and you will also get cowhides. You can often find a buyer for them in Al Kharid bank. If you could use the extra money, take them and store them in your bank to sell later. Just keep doing that on shared xp until you have 20 range and 20 def. Once there, change your attack mode to rapid so you will just train range.
Now you have a decision to make. You can either attack scorpions in Al Kharid (stand out of the mining pit and shoot in on them), go by the crafting guild and shoot across to the hobgoblins, or go to the place in the north of barbarian village with the tables and the level 17 barbarians (watch out, there is a ranger barbarian who could hurt you even if you are behind a table or chair, so don’t attack him). If you are short on arrows, I recommend the barb village option because you can pick up your arrows. My favorite, personally, is the scorpions because you have a lot of them to kill and the Al Kharid bank isn’t too far away. Train your range to 40 now. Once at level 40, remember to put on your green d hide vambs and chaps.
Now comes the most tedious part. Getting that defense up to 40. Do the same as you did to get your range to 40, but this time set your attack mode to long-range again. (Why not just do long-range the whole time? Because if you get your range up first, you will be hitting more when you are training your defense, and you will also be training your range level.) Now you will have to train getting only half of the total xp in defense. This is why it takes longer.
Once you get 40 defense you should worry about prayer. It only takes around 11k (regular) bones to get to level 43 prayer (for protect form melee). (I just bury regular ones. Big bones are overpriced) If you get your prayer up to 44, you will have eagle eye which is also handy to have.
Now all I can say is to get your range up to 50+ and have fun pking. You can get the next best armor for every ten levels after 40 until you can wear black d hide (members). Now, pking with 40 def, 44pray, and 50+ range (good pure setup) you should probably use mithril or adamant arrows to ensure maximum damage.
I hope my guide helped =]
Good luck to all……………..
