Ok, so the slayer skill is really confusing me... I don't understand how it helps. Does it make the monsters easier to kill as you level up? For my first assignment, I had to kill 17 ghouls. I killed them all, so does that mean I am now more effective at killing ghouls? Also, for my next assignment I have to kill 77 green dragons. Ohwtf... my combat is only 66. Would I be able to handle that? They only spawn in the wildy so I'm worried about losing my stuff. I have 55 HP, are lobsters sufficient? (And yeah, I know to bring the anti dragonfire shield)

As for the green dragons? Your lvl 66 and they are lvl 79 so i wouldn't go for it. Go for a new slayer task.

Slayer does not help you kill monsters better or faster.

However, there are fair number of monsters that can only be killed if you Slayer is at a certain level. Slayer monsters tend to have good drops, including some that are only dropped by one creature (Abyssal Whip, Dark Bow, etc)

Well I'm slaying skeletons now... that's fairly easy. Still don't quite understand the whole point of slayer, but as a member, its something I should take advantage of.

edit: Ahh ok... so you can kill slayer-only monsters outside an assignment, right?

I'm not a fan of Green Dragons either, taking a lot of equipment in the wild is not good for my stress level.

You can always 'Burthorpe' your assignment.

The point of slayer is to be able to kill different monsters.

At level 85 slayer, for instance, you'll be able to kill Abyssal Demons. These types of monsters drop whips.

If you don't have level 85 slayer, then it won't let you kill/attack the monsters.

Yes, you can kill slayer monsters outside a task, but you have to have acquired that slayer level like 85 for abyssmal demons and still use the special junk like lamp for harpy bugs or whatever. I find they drop better when on task. Fire giants have dropped rune scimmies and longs for me. If you're training a combat skill, you can do it while building slayer.
I avoid the greens, too, so pking children can't target me. Vanaka was on a stretch of giving me sea snakes--long walk and they poison you with lame drops. I traded down to the Burthorpe slayer master a lot.

(Note: Slaying is a hard skill to get up, when you level it up alot)
