if u are a beginner i would mine iron a lot , then sell it
if u have a moderate sum of money, u can merchant iron
many noobs are happy with like 15 gp per iron but u can sell it for like 100 gp each( from runehq.com)

10K? 100K? 1M? 10M? Many people have different views on what a moderate amount of money is. Please be a bit more specific.

u can have as little as 5k if u want
cuz if u buy iron for like 15-50 each, and then sell for like 80-100 each u will still make lots of money

(note:it is easier if u have a high priced buyer of iron before u try merchanting)

most people will sell iron for 50
and then you sell it on for 150
thats 150% profit
