Buy flax, make bowstrings and sell them. You get crafting exp and very good profit.
Another way is to buy or get a lot of cow hides and make leather armors.
Yet another way, mine silver and make tiaras. If you have several skilling necklaces you can use them to teleport to the Crafting guild and mine the ore there.

I used two paths: Glass and gold.
Glass: 1. Go to Yanille and fill your bank account with as many buckets of sand as you can. 2a. Go to Entrana's northwest corner and gather seaweed, running between there and a bank on the mainland for as often as you have buckets of sand -or- 2b. Go to Catherby and buy seaweed from big net fishers. 3. Go to Al-Kharid, where the furnace is by the bank and blow glass to your heart's content.
Gold: 1. Start at Falador and equip a brown apron and pick. 2. Go to the Craft Guild and get gobs of gold. 3. Go to al-Kharid and craft gold jewelry to your heart's content.
The Glass way gets me all the vials I ever use for herblore (even though other glass items give more exp.), and the Gold way gets me the makings for magic jewelry. Plain necklaces can be sold at the Port Sarim jewelry shop, too. Just picking flax and making bowstrings doesn't yield a lot of exp per item, but it certainly is profitable.

I use glass making too, but a bit differently and using 77 lvl Lunar spell.
Here are a few suggestions for glass making:
1. Do 'Hand in the Sand' quest and you will get 90 buckets with sand delivered to your bank daily and for free.
2. You can buy seaweed, soda ash and sand buckets in a charter trader shop on the Catherby pierce.
3. Use 77 lvl Lunar Super Glass spell to make glass. It has several cool features:
-- you get 10-15% more glass from the same number of materials
-- the spell works for seaweed as well, so you don't have to convert seaweed to soda ash at all

Vrunewise makes great suggestions
Personally I used the crafting guild to make tiaras and it worked great for me.
