I was fishing today and some noob says "giving away this account free" so then me and like 10 other people get in an argument about wether its against the rules or not. I say it is, its the same as account trading. Except your trading an account for nothing.
What are your thoughts on this? against the rules (Obviously) or no?

It is definitely against the rules, same as selling accounts.

Its against the rules because its not necessarily selling the account,, but account sharing. Since nothing of value is given for the account, then it doesn't really fit under the selling category. But uh, regardless of this... don't take accounts free or not.. basically, they'll recover the account hoping you put items onto it or something and if you didn't know it,, its one of the most basic and noob-ish scams around.

Yea it is against the rules because no matter what, you are never to let your account shift into any1 else's hands. PERIOD.

yup... i don't know how they enforce it necessarily other than IP check or whatnot but hey,, i don't even let my cousin on my account when he comes over to my place ( kjeldoran90 ) i'll play on my laptop when he's playing on my pc...but still.. even then i don't let him use mine.. just to be sure

It clary states that only the original owner of the account can use the character. They will detect a change in ip addresses and ban the account.

One other point... how do you know that it's his account to give away? He could have hacked in, plundered the account and passed it on having broken as many rules as possible...?

Lol. This isnt true^
What if the person plays on a different computer?
Like if he goes to a computer place, like this place were i live called netzone.
Its a different IP there. And that doenst mean Jagex will ban your account...
And it is against rules, if you aren't sure you should send a message to Jagex asking if it is against the rules.

yes its definatly against the rules and many of my freinds have been reported and banned for that reason. just by saying the word even though you dont mean it or your kidding can actually get you banned. :|

Blind has a point... I have played my character on RS from several different computers... so I believe that simply gameplay from a differnt IP doesn't mean a whole lot.. but then again,, I don't know... I know its against the rules.. but unless you do something to bring attention to yourself then i don't see why they would care if you used differnt IP's each time,,,

pmgsh (to everyone, mostly) :P
melee already knew that jagex has a rule against that. he was just indirectly asking if people agree with the rule or not for receiving a free account... i got that from the first post even though it may not have exactly said that..
so...the real answer...
no (still, duh  ), but the reasoning is that it would give the receiving player an advantage over others who have actually spent time playing the game and getting their lvls up themselves. nobody is supposed to have a real advantage over others. just like buying rs gp for real $$ is against the rules, it give players unfair advantages. jagex wants this game of theirs to be as fair as possible so that all type of person that sits with an internet connection could get to the same places by just spending more time playing their game. and they would think that if you play it more, then you would get more addicted and buy membership from them :P . they want money to go to them, not others...
..wait this was about free account...but i think i may have explained well enough..hopefully :?:

true,, but what i'm saying is this.... i have played the same character on 4 different computers at 4 seperate locations with 4 seperate IP addresses.... what i don't understand is how Jagex differenciates between this happening and somebody sharing accounts. Thats all.. and unless your a fool then there is no way people would know your account info so they wouldn't be able to *rip others off*
and please.. use sentence form when you speak... it'll make people think your smarter than you are blade

yes, i would like if some more people put a little bit of grammer into their posts. not much but periods and commas, don't even have to capitolize "I" if you (in general) don't want to.
more on-topicnessy
you are right about jagex not being able to dishtinguish from all of the ips and sharing users. but, if there is much of a problem coming from an ip, then they ban that ip, so everyone else who may want to play from that ip can't, they would have to find another one. only scammer account banned from play.
well, i think it should be ^that^ way if it isn't already..

I agree... I think that jagex should monitor IP's in the same way they do now with massive trading... i know that would be hard to do and i'm sure that they struggle with problems like this everyday, but i personally would like to know if all the equipment on my character was traded to another in 1 fell swoop that they could at least trace that account so that something could be done.
And i know i'm being slightlly hypocrytical (sp.) gramatically by using several ...'s or ,,,'s and not Capping my I's but hey,, at least people can understand me!

Yes it is against rules,
But playing from different ip addresses will not get you into trouble. I play from different ip addresses and have never had a problem.

Rule 6: No Account Trading Or Sharing. Each account should only be used by ONE person. Account sharing is NOT allowed.
You may not sell, transfer or lend your account to anyone else, or permit anyone else to use your account, and you may not accept an account that anybody else offers you.
Read the bit in red! It does not say anything about giving away!!
