1. Intro to Runescape 99 SKill Guide
Nearly every RuneScape player has at one stage, at least considered, if not attempted to reach 99 in any particular skill. This guide will inform you a bit about what it actually takes to attain the highest possible level in a skill and give you some handy hints and tips to remember along the way.

Over the years I played RuneScape I had the pleasure of achieving 99 in two skills, so the guidance you are about to receive is from someone who has experienced it not once, but twice. There’s no denying it does require a lot of work and/or patience but with the aid of this guide hopefully the whole experience can be more enjoyable and pleasurable.

2. Choosing Your Runescape Skill to Level to 99
Before you begin the long journey to 99 you will need to decide which skill you should be aiming to achieve it in. You need to consider the following things:

- Is it a skill I enjoy?
- Will this skill be useful to me when it is at 99?
- Do I have the funds/resources to make it to level 99?
- Do I have the patience for this particular skill?

As a first 99 it would be sensible to choose one that is achievable and rather simple in comparison to some of the others.

For example, a player aiming for a skill such as Runecrafting as their first 99 would fail a lot more often that someone who aims at an easier skill, such as Cooking.

Another thing to consider before you chose your skill is the type of style in which you play RuneScape. If you are like me, and enjoy switching windows often and browsing websites whilst gaining exp at the same time then a skill that requires less concentration would be appropriate. For example, Fletching, Woodcutting, Fishing, Cooking, Crafting etc.

Conversely, if you are the type of player who is focused 100% of the time on what they are doing in-game then other skills that require more concentration might be relevant to you. For example, Firemaking, Runecrafting, Mining or any combat skill.

Ultimately the choice is yours and any skill that you do chose you must be prepared to stick with it for the whole journey.

3. Getting Started
Once you have decided on what skill you are going to level it is then time to start getting together resources or money. This is the stage when you buy your raw food, your bowstrings and logs, your rune essence etc.

However, if you have chosen what is called a ‘gathering skill’ then this part of the guide is not applicable to you. Gathering skills, as the name suggests, are the skills in which you gather items. Basically they are the skills that you need little or no money to get started. These include Fishing, Mining, Woodcutting, Melee skills etc.

All the ‘gathering skills’ do not appear on the ‘Request Assistance’ screen, so if you are unsure about your skill type then this may be used as a reference.

If you are starting from scratch and have no money or you simply don’t have enough money at the time, then it would be wise to visit some of our guides or search for others elsewhere to build up your bank roll a little before you get started.

Once you have a decent amount of GP to start with (this can differ from each skill) it is time to buy your resources. To begin with, I suggest buying enough supplies for you to reach a decent enough level so that it seems you are making progress.
I would recommend purchasing enough supplies for at least level 50 to start off with. By this level you will know whether or not you wish to continue with your goal, and if you do continue, you will have already made some inroads towards your goal.

The rest of the journey is as simple as selling your made items, using the Cooking skill as an example, it is as follows:
- Sell items (cooked food)
- Buy supplies (raw food)
- Sell items (cooked food)
- Buy supplies (raw food) etc.

If you are unsure about exp or what method of training you should be using then I advise you to search for a skill guide that relates to your particular skill. Some may be found using an online search engine or browsing our forums.

This may not be the case with all skills, as with some you will receive little or no cash back from your supplies. This is why some 99s are harder to achieve than others. If you do run out of money or fall short of buying your required resources then you can either gather your own supplies or visit some of the money making guides again.

4. Entertainment and Staying on Track
One of the major problems with RuneScape players and their inability to achieve level 99 in a skill is their patience. Yes, sometimes leveling the same skill for weeks or months on end can be boring and uninteresting, hence why 99 capes are so admired and respected among the RuneScape community.

A few simple tips will help you rid you of your boredom and help you get back to what is the most important thing; your exp!

Music
Simple tunes can be all it takes to help keep you interested and focused on your goal. Set a playlist of your favourite songs, put on a new album, listen to calming meditation music. Whatever it takes, music is a great tool for simple entertainment that you can be used simultaneously with your skilling.

Breaks
Even the people who want to achieve 99 in the quickest possible time know that it is important to take regular breaks from your gameplay. This does not mean going to grab a drink from the fridge or logging out for 3 minutes. Go outside, go for a run, go to sleep, just go and lay down if that’s what it takes. Breaks are not only important to your gaming they are important to your health, people have suffered illnesses from dangerous amounts of gameplay. Never put your health before a game

Instant Messaging
Whilst playing RuneScape, I found one of the easiest ways to escape my boredom was to chat to friends online whilst I was playing. The conversations keep you thinking and help distract you from realizing what it is you are actually doing. The exp soars and seems effortless when you are distracted.

Real-Life Distractions
Something that can really be overlooked when playing a computer game is what you are doing in real life or what is happening around you.
Keep yourself entertained. Look outside the computer screen for a source of entertainment, believe me this really helps to keep you amused and can help keep you focused on your goal. It can be really simple, small things. For example during my leveling I played a lot with poker chips and did the crosswords from the daily paper as well as chatting to family members and friends.

Websites
The internet can be used as a great source for entertainment and can be a vital tool in keeping you on track with your goals. Visiting a fun games site, watching videos or reading an online book can be a great way of keeping yourself amused without leaving your computer chair. For example sites like YouTube or Miniclip are great for some fun and fast entertainment.

5. Goal Setting
Goal setting plays a vital part in a successful level 99 campaign. A good goal setter will be able to achieve almost any goal he or she sets out for.
Here are a few basic tips for good goal setting on RuneScape.

Small Goals
It is very important when setting goals on a game like RuneScape that the goals you set are realistic and achievable. It’s no use having one goal for level 99 when you are only just starting on your journey, you will lose faith.

A good goal setter will pick out milestones and work towards each one. Milestones can be anything from gaining another level, reaching a certain exp or being able to equip a new item.

Always make sure your have several ‘mini-goals’ within a larger one, in the end it will make your larger goal seem more achievable. Having said this, by all means, begin with the end in mind.

One goal
To prevent yourself from straying too far from your purpose it is important to only have one goal in mind when you are leveling. This means leaving that extra 1,000 exp you need for your next strength level and getting back to what you are supposed to be working on.

Yes, at some points you are going to want to get to events, clan meetings or say hi to a friend in-game, which is perfectly fine, just as long as after your break you make sure you get back to your goal.

The longer your break, the harder it is to return to your skilling.

6. Miscellaneous tips
A few random tips that might keep you going and help you achieve your level 99 in an easier fashion.

Stay in the one world
Believe it or not, by logging on to the same world constantly your task will become a lot easier, and I mean a lot. In my experience, when I was maxing out one of my levels I found this to be one of, if not the most important aspect in my leveling.

By logging onto the same world constantly you begin to befriend and become familiar with many of the other players who also log onto that world, in particular in the same area.

Trust me, it’s a great feeling when you log on and people greet you with “Hey, how’s the level 99 coming along?” It will help you to stay focused on your goal, meet new people (often who share the same goal) and keep yourself entertained.

Public chat
Unless you are looking to attain a level 99 in that fastest possible way, I strongly suggest leaving your public chat on. Even if the conversations in-game are unbelievably lame or annoying they will no doubt keep you entertained and you might even get the odd word of encouragement from a fellow player.

Change it up
Change your surroundings. Both in-game and at your computer it is important to keep things new and interesting. Whether it is changing to your laptop or cutting a tree at a new location it will help to change up what you are doing and avoid some of the repetitiveness involved in gaining a level 99 skill.

Mini-games
Mini-games are a great way to keep yourself entertained. If at any stage during your leveling you find yourself completely bored and about to give up, they are a great way to break up your training. Having a few round of castle wars or heading to the fight pits is a great way for a quick bit of fun to get your rejuvenated and will help break up your goal.

Once again, try not to make your breaks too lengthy.

Logging-out
ALWAYS log out doing the skill that you are aiming for level 99 in. This is because it is much easier to continue your goal if it is in front of you. For example, if you were to log on down in the mining guild with a half full inventory it is much easier to get back to your goal than if you log on to find yourself at a different location.

7. Conclusion
I hope my guide provided you with some useful hints and tips regarding fun and enjoyable leveling. Please don’t hesitate to contact me via PM with any problems, queries or questions.
I hope to see you walking around RuneScape showing off your brand new cape in no time

Happy leveling.
